Drawing the analogy that, just like nature, people have seasons and distinct cycles of creativity I am creating paintings that attempt to illustrate my own cycle. I am documenting, deciphering and visualizing these stages of the creative life in an attempt to create an educational opportunity for other artists to understand their own seasonal creative cycle. I understand, feel and use this intuition in my own practice and since becoming more aware of my cycles, have found relief and comfort in them. This makes me a productive and healthy creative. Because these seasons are understood intuitively, I create images in the same way. Recording the different cycles in symbolically layered paintings. These paintings can act as tarot cards, graphs or mnemonic devices of the cycle when interpreted by viewers and myself.
This month I a focusing on the themes that come with a creative fall season. This is when we start to slow down and go more internal; this is when production dwindles down and we start to consolidate and catalogue what we have made. When fall comes on it can be frightening to those not in sync with their natural cycle, because it might feel like you will never create again. An avoidence strategy that I often see in my work with creatives, is to fixate on the details. Instead of allowing the natural decline of productive creative energy, they torture themselves with perfectionism, pressure to make more work and "professionalism".
In this class I want to share a technique that can help you create more non-directionally and therefore affords your inner artist the space to go through whatever season s(he) has to. This class is suitable for beginners all the way to experts as it is not so much about how to draw a body, but rather new processes to use in the act of art-making.
