About the Event
In my creative coaching work with all kinds of individuals the lack of support and community is very apparent. Besides this, the way we are educated sets creatives up to see each other as competition rather than as the biggest wells of resource and inspiration. From the very first art pieces we made to document, digest and depict human life we worked in community. It is only a recent thing (which I suspect came with the ego of the enlightenment) that we are so individualistically inclined that we starve ourselves of the magic of collaboration.
I want to create a space where ANYONE interested in expression can come together to muse, plan, connect, share and support each other. A studio space filled with creatives that want to create a tight knit community of all kinds of creatives that can be a safe haven for experimentation, exploration and the nitty-gritty of the creative process.
The specific brief for the event is open ended. I will do a quick creativity chat in the beginning of the session and open up the group to a short brainstorming challenge that creatives in Cape Town face. After that we will put on some music, enjoy each other’s company, give each other feedback, form new plans and projects and whatever arises between an arty bunch of people. What better place to do this than the Deep South culture hub, The Commons!
I hope to see you there! If you are thinking, “I’m not talented, experienced, trained or active enough to join”, you should DEFINITELY come! Let’s build each other’s confidence and create an art scene that is artist focused!
