In this workshop we will bring together knowledge from traditional practice and contemporary practice. I am joined by Serap Akturk, a Turkish German artist who works primarily in Ebru painting.
Ebru is the traditional art of creating colorful patterns by sprinkling and brushing color pigments on a pan of oily water and then transforming this pattern to a special paper.
Serap has a deep desire to share her passion for Turkish marbling (Ebru) with South Africans. She fell in love with the artistic spirit of Cape Town when she first moved here 3 years ago. Since Ebru is an expensive craft that takes years to master, we put our heads together to find a way for creatives in Cape Town to experience the beauty and inspiration of this technique.
We have developed a beautiful fusion class for you to explore contemporary ways of making art in juxtaposing our own paintings with marbled paper. This workshop aims to expand your use of various mediums such as ink, found images, paint, geometric cuttings and Ebru by offering new ways of creating art.
You don’t need any experience for this workshop. We will play together and experiment with the purpose of catalysing your personal creative process.
