Workshop Brief:

Come (re)connect to your intuitive creativity! This workshop is for anyone that wants to activate their creativity, make something with their hands and/or just wants to have fun!

My intention with the Creative Intuition workshop is to share a multisensory art experience with you that will bring new life, inspiration and insight into your artistic expression. In this workshop you will be creating a multimedia intuition card using drawing, painting, collage and writing. I will guide an active visualization meditation in which you will explore your creative energy - from this, the card will be generated. An intuition card can be placed on your altar, on your dresser, in your car etc. to help you align with the intention to connect more often to your inner artist.

You will also be creating a small totem out of air drying clay that you can carry in your handbag or on your body. This little sculpture can help you reconnect to your body - the center of creative expression - as a centering or grounding practice to help you jump into making art when you are at home.

What to expect:

  • In my group and one-on-one sessions I don’t teach individuals how to draw/paint/creative something specific. Rather I guide you to find your own way of working with a subject matter- that way creating a unique artistic identity.
  • I guide you to connect to your intuition and prompt you with tips, technical knowledge and methods that I have learned through the years of being a professional artist.
  • We will do musing while making where you are invited to discuss your progress, share inspiration and insights. This is an important part of the creative process - being witnessed and feeling the support of a group setting
  • A multi-media exploration in drawing, painting, collage, writing & clay
  • Intuitive, open-loop teaching style
  • A spiritual take on the creative process
  • An immersive art experience
  • Relating to mediums and making in a unique way
  • Focus on technical skills development and on curiosity, play and experimentation with medium

I believe anyone can be an artist and that art can make life more pleasurable.”

Nicolene Burger is a visual artist living in Cape Town. She received her BA (Visual Arts) from Stellenbosch University in 2017. The practice of Burger (b. 1994) ranges across painting and performance. ‘Power and Solace’, her current exhibition with Gallery Fanon, celebrates Burger’s psychological journey through the power and solace of art-making, resulting in a series of spontaneous and playful landscapes and self-portraits reflecting a renewed sense of freedom of expression. Stemming from Burger’s meditative practices such as active visualization, reflective writing and incantation of mantras, this body of work expresses the artist’s journey through a process of self-reflection and empowerment. Burgers’ work offers the viewer a similar journey of exploration, resolution and calm which she finds here herself.
